Ingredients

  • 4 lb pork shoulder (Boston butt)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Mix the brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl to create the rub.
  2. Rub the spice mixture evenly over the entire surface of the pork shoulder.
  3. Place the pork shoulder in a slow cooker.
  4. In a separate small bowl, mix the apple cider vinegar, water, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour this liquid over the pork.
  5. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours, or until the pork is very tender and easily shreds with a fork.
  6. Remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board.
  7. Shred the pork using two forks.
  8. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker liquid and stir to coat. Keep warm until serving.

Notes

  • For a crispier exterior, you can sear the pork shoulder in a hot pan before placing it in the slow cooker.
  • Serve the pulled pork on buns with your favorite barbecue sauce.
