  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups unsweetened plant milk (soy or almond recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  3. In a separate small bowl, mix the plant milk and apple cider vinegar. Let it sit for 5 minutes to curdle slightly.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix quickly with a wooden spoon until just combined. Do not overmix. The dough will be sticky.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently shape it into a round loaf, about 2 inches high.
  6. Place the loaf on the prepared baking sheet. Cut a deep cross into the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
  7. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  8. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use oat milk instead of soy or almond milk.
