Ingredients

  • 6 cups apple cider
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Combine apple cider, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in a medium saucepan.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and keep warm. Do not boil.
  3. In a separate small saucepan, combine heavy cream, butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Heat over low heat, stirring until the butter melts completely. Remove from heat.
  5. To serve, pour the warm cider into mugs. Drizzle about 1 tablespoon of the caramel mixture over the top of each serving.

Notes

  • For an extra treat, top with whipped cream before adding the caramel drizzle.
  • You can make the caramel sauce ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to one week. Reheat gently before serving.
