Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies

Description

A recipe for making standard chocolate chip cookies.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a large bowl until creamy.
  3. Beat in the vanilla extract and eggs one at a time.
  4. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 2 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For chewier cookies, chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
  • You can substitute milk chocolate or dark chocolate chips for semi-sweet.
