Description
A simple recipe for a warm apple crumble topped with a sweet caramel streusel.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with the granulated sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Place the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- In a separate medium bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and salt for the topping.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the top before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use a mix of apple varieties.
- You can substitute pecans or walnuts for some of the oats in the topping.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
