  • For the Frosting:
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate small bowl, combine the mashed bananas and buttermilk.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the banana-mish mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  8. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.
  9. Let the cupcakes cool in the muffin tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. For the frosting: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  11. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until well combined and creamy. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  12. Once the cupcakes are completely cool, frost them generously with the cream cheese frosting.
