Description

A simple recipe for a warm baked apple crisp with a crunchy topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into 1/4 inch thick pieces. Place the apple slices in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon flour, and cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture over the apples and toss gently to coat.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, combine the 1/2 cup flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and nutmeg.
  5. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the apples.
  7. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  8. Let the crisp cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
