Description
A quick recipe for crispy, flavorful tofu coated in a savory black pepper sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
- 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
Instructions
- Toss the cubed tofu with 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce until coated.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the tofu and cook, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove tofu from the skillet and set aside.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add minced garlic and ginger to the skillet and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup soy sauce, water, brown sugar, and black pepper.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet. Bring to a simmer and cook until the sauce thickens slightly, about 2 minutes.
- Return the crispy tofu to the skillet. Toss gently to coat the tofu evenly with the sauce.
- Stir in the sesame oil. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Pressing the tofu removes excess water, which helps it become crispier when cooked.
- Adjust the amount of black pepper to your taste preference.
