Description

A burger combining the flavors of Vietnamese Banh Mi with a traditional burger format.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded carrot
  • 1 cup shredded daikon radish
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1 jalapeño, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground pork, panko breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, fish sauce, ground ginger, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Form the mixture into four equal patties.
  3. Heat a skillet or grill to medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
  4. While the burgers cook, prepare the pickled vegetables: In a small bowl, mix shredded carrot, shredded daikon radish, rice vinegar, and sugar. Let sit for at least 10 minutes.
  5. Mix mayonnaise and sriracha (if using) in a separate small bowl.
  6. Lightly toast the hamburger buns.
  7. Assemble the burgers: Spread the spicy mayonnaise on both halves of the bun. Place a cooked pork patty on the bottom bun. Top with pickled vegetables, cilantro leaves, and jalapeño slices. Place the top bun on the burger.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground chicken or turkey for the ground pork.
  • Adjust the amount of sriracha to control the spice level.
