Description
A simple recipe for tender steak covered in rich onion gravy.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 beef steaks (about 6 oz each)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Season the steaks with salt and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear steaks for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare; remove steaks and set aside.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add sliced onions to the skillet and cook until softened and lightly browned, about 8-10 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir constantly for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and thyme.
- Bring the gravy to a simmer, stirring until it thickens slightly. Taste and adjust seasoning.
- Return the steaks to the skillet. Spoon gravy over the steaks.
- Cover the skillet and simmer gently for 5-10 minutes, or until the steaks reach your desired doneness.
Notes
- For extra flavor, use red wine instead of half the beef broth.
- If the gravy is too thick, add a little water or broth to thin it.
