- 1 pound rotini pasta
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Cook rotini pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add onion and cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes.
- Bring sauce to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Season sauce with salt and pepper.
- Add cooked rotini to the skillet and toss to coat with sauce.
- Serve immediately topped with Parmesan cheese.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use fire-roasted crushed tomatoes.
- Add cooked ground beef or Italian sausage for a heartier meal.
