- 1 pound mostaccioli pasta
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Cook mostaccioli according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion and garlic to the skillet; cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- In a medium bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In the baking dish, combine the cooked pasta and the meat sauce. Mix well.
- Spread the ricotta mixture evenly over the pasta and sauce.
- Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the top.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are lightly browned.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey or Italian sausage for the ground beef.
- For a richer flavor, add 1/2 cup of dry red wine to the sauce while it simmers.
