Description

A recipe for making crispy steak fingers, a simple and satisfying childhood favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak or sirloin, cut into strips about 1/2 inch thick
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (Panko recommended for extra crispiness)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Place the steak strips between two sheets of plastic wrap. Pound them lightly with a meat mallet until they are about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Set up a standard breading station: Place flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a shallow dish. In a second shallow dish, place the beaten eggs. In a third shallow dish, place the breadcrumbs.
  3. Dredge each steak strip first in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.
  4. Dip the floured strip into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
  5. Coat the strip thoroughly in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to make sure they adhere.
  6. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
  7. Carefully place the breaded steak strips into the hot oil, ensuring you do not overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Remove the steak fingers from the oil and place them on a wire rack or a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For oven baking instead of frying, place coated fingers on a wire rack set over a baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius) for 15 to 20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until crispy.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup or honey mustard.
