Instructions
- Combine warm milk and yeast in a bowl; let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in granulated sugar, egg, and melted butter into the yeast mixture.
- In a separate large bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough. On a floured surface, roll the dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon for the filling.
- Spread the filling evenly over the dough rectangle.
- Roll the dough tightly along the long edge to form a log.
- Cut the log into 1-inch thick slices.
- Place the slices into greased donut pans, leaving space between them.
- Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until lightly golden.
- While donuts bake, whisk together powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, and vanilla extract for the glaze.
- Remove donuts from pans and let cool slightly on a wire rack.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm donuts.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use whole milk in the recipe.
- If you do not have donut pans, you can cut the dough into rings using donut cutters and fry them instead.
- Adjust the amount of cinnamon in the filling to your preference.
