Description
A simple cake recipe that captures the flavor of a cinnamon roll.

- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour an 8×8 inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the flour mixture alternately with the milk, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together for the swirl.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the batter.
- Pour the remaining batter over the cinnamon-sugar layer. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
- Use a knife to gently swirl the top layer of sugar into the batter.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the cake cools, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake before serving.
Notes
- For a stronger cinnamon flavor, increase the cinnamon in the swirl to 1 1/2 tablespoons.
- You can use a 9-inch round cake pan, but adjust the baking time slightly.
