Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Stir in the rolled oats until evenly distributed.
  7. Press half of the oat mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
  8. In a small saucepan, heat the sweetened condensed milk and caramel sauce over medium heat, stirring constantly, until smooth and slightly thickened.
  9. Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the oat layer in the pan.
  10. Crumble the remaining oat mixture evenly over the caramel layer.
  11. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the caramel is bubbly.
  12. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

  • For softer bars, bake for a shorter time. For chewier bars, bake longer.
