Description

A straightforward recipe for a warm apple dessert with a crisp topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, toss the apple slices with granulated sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Place the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, oats, and nutmeg.
  4. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle the topping mixture evenly over the apples.
  6. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  7. Let the crisp cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for the best flavor.
  • You can substitute Granny Smith apples with Honeycrisp or Fuji apples.
